Kasba sits right in that central-south belt of the city where life moves at a particular pace, and the homes here reflect that honestly. Most of our clients in this area are living in compact apartments near the Kasba connector, and what they want is not something out of a magazine but something that actually works for their daily life, their storage needs, their family rhythms, and the way their flat is oriented. We have been doing this long enough to know that Kasba interiors are about making intelligent use of what is there, not chasing layouts that belong in a bigger floor plan.

The housing stock in Kasba is a mix of older multi-floor buildings and mid-size apartment complexes, many of them built before modular planning became common, so the rooms often have odd proportions or walls that break up what could otherwise be a clean open zone. We design around those constraints rather than pretending they are not there, which usually means custom joinery, space-saving storage integrated into the structure, and layouts that account for how the family actually moves through the flat across a full day.
What we plan for here
Kolkata humidity is real, and in Kasba the older buildings especially hold moisture in ways that affect material choices, so we are careful about what goes on walls and floors here. Daylight in this part of the city can be limited by surrounding buildings and by the orientation of the connector-side flats, so we plan lighting with that in mind. Society rules in the older residential buildings can restrict structural changes, and we factor that in before we even start proposing layouts, so the client is not surprised halfway through the project.

A local studio for Kasba
Our studio is in New Town, which puts us genuinely close to Kasba, and we have worked across South-East Kolkata enough to know how these buildings behave. We are not flying in from a distant office and guessing at local conditions. At the end of the day, what we bring is ten plus years of Kolkata-specific practice, a team that does the site visits properly, and designs that hold up through the monsoon and beyond.

Honestly, 850 sq ft with three bedrooms is a layout we have worked with many times in this part of Kasba, and the key is how the rooms are positioned relative to each other. We usually find at least two or three moves that open the space up significantly without touching any load-bearing wall, so yes, there is real scope here.
It limits some things, right, but not as much as people expect. Most of what makes a flat feel good, which is light, storage, material choices, how furniture sits in the room, and the flow between kitchen and living, none of that requires wall removal. We design within those restrictions all the time in Kasba and the results are solid.
We stay away from materials that warp or swell in high humidity, so MDF without proper sealing is out, and we are careful with certain laminates and wall finishes. For Kasba specifically we tend to recommend moisture-resistant board, good-quality hardware with anti-rust treatment, and flooring that does not trap water at the joints, basically things that survive five monsoons without looking tired.
