Here at Studio Contour we have been doing full home architecture since 2014, which means we stay with the project from soil test and sanction drawings all the way through finishing and handover, so the ceiling heights, the window placements, the room proportions, the Vastu considerations if the family follows them, all of these get decided together rather than getting patched later by whoever does the interior fit-out.

Paschim Medinipur gets a serious monsoon, and Kharagpur is no exception, so ventilation, waterproofing at junctions, and material selection for humidity are things we factor in from the concept stage rather than as an afterthought. Daylight planning matters here because the plots in the older parts of town can be deep and narrow, and the newer flats often have one or two sides with limited exposure. Where society bylaws or builder restrictions apply we check those before finalising any false ceiling heights, partition walls, or facade work, so there are no surprises mid-project.
Our studio is in New Town, which puts us close enough to Kharagpur that site visits are practical and regular rather than occasional. Yes, and honestly this is work we genuinely enjoy. Older railway-town homes usually have solid construction and good room sizes, so a lot of what we do is reconfigure layouts, improve storage, update finishes, and rethink the kitchen and bathrooms without touching the main structure. We will tell you upfront if something structural needs attention.
We start with a site visit to measure and photograph everything, then we put together a layout plan, a material and finish schedule, and a realistic budget range before any work begins. We coordinate with vendors and contractors directly so you are not managing multiple parties on your own, and we do site checks through the execution to keep things on track.
We specify materials that are suited to the local climate as a baseline, so moisture-resistant boards for kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, appropriate primers and paints for walls, and waterproofing details at sills and wet-area junctions. To be very honest, cutting corners on these early on is where most interior projects in Bengal run into trouble later, and we are fairly firm about not doing that.
