Perforated jali offcuts, the trimmed edges from decorative screen orders, work well as diffuser panels wrapped around a simple bulb housing, throwing a dappled pattern of light and shadow across a wall that changes character completely depending on the time of day and the angle of ambient light, and we have used this in a couple of residential dining spaces where the client wanted a warm, textured glow rather than a flat wash of light. The wiring and electrical safety work on any of these fixtures has to be done to the same code compliance as any commercial fixture regardless of how the housing was sourced, so we always route that part through our regular certified electrical vendor rather than treating it as part of the upcycling shortcut.
